Mr. Roos’s Ambassadorship coincided with the devastating 9.0 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis on March 11, 2011. During this tragedy, Ambassador Roos led the U.S. effort on the ground to support Japan’s multi-dimensional and unprecedented disaster. Following the crisis, he also led the creation of the TOMODACHI initiative. "TOMODACHI" is the Japanese word for “Friends”.

After his Ambassadorship, Mr. Roos founded Geodesic Capital, a venture capital fund in Silicon Valley. Mr. Roos and his team continues to bridge friendship, growth and development between Japan and the United States, bringing value to the fund’s investors its portfolio companies, and eventually the two countries.

I expressed Mr.Roos's name as "琉寿". The pronunciation of "琉寿" is Roos.

"琉" means treasures or a power creating something new.

Parents hope that their child will grow up to be kindhearted like the blue refreshing ocean and the sky by using this letter "琉" in first name.

"寿" means happy or celebration.

I chose these two letters "琉寿" wishing Mr. & Mrs. Roos and Geodesic Capital to keep producing something new and bringing happiness to both U.S and Japan.

"TOMODACHI", one of Mr. Roos' keywords, is weaved into "琉寿".

I presented my work to John & Susie Roos. Mr. Roos served as the US Ambassador to Japan (August 2009-August 2013) during President Obama’s 1^st term.

Susie Roos was an active voice supporting efforts to empower women in the Japanese workforce, and also played an active role in the U.S. response to the Great East Japan Earthquake which happened on March 11, 2011. She is one of the founding members of the TOMODACHI Initiative, a public-private partnership, and serves as a member of its Board of Counselors. "TOMODACHI" is the Japanese word for “Friends”.

I expressed Susie Roos's name as "枢慈". The pronunciation of "枢慈" is Susie.

"枢" means a very important person and organization that move things. Within the design, I also expressed "区" of "枢" in reference to Geodesic Capital's corporate logo. Please refer to the description in the photo.

  "慈" means love, affection, compassion, tenderness and warm heartedness.

I chose these two letters "枢慈" wishing Mr. and Mrs. Roos and Geodesic Capital to continuously play a vital role for the growth, development and friendship of the U.S and Japan with love and warm heartedness.
